This is almost one of those cases where you just have to show up - almost but not completely. The colors are so beautiful and the scene is is compelling; calm, peaceful, almost mystical. I feel at home near the ocean. It's waves sooth me, it's waters calm and comfort me. I set up my tripod in the sand. The water would wash over it from time to time. You have to be careful because as the water flows out it takes the sand on which your tripod is resting. This will create a blurry image. A drag unless that is what you were looking for. I let the shutter stay open for anywhere from 1/8 to about 5 seconds. This allows the waves to smooth and some of the reflected color to blend in. In a situation like this I am always shooting 100 ISO. I also set the camera to under expose by 1/3 of a stop. This allows for better color saturation. One more tip. I never worry about the salt water hurting the tripod, but as soon as possible I wipe the camera and lens with a damp fresh water rag.
