Los Angeles, California, Skyline
The trick, in my mind, to getting a good skyline picture of a city is to go somewhere that has not been photographed from before. The iconic images of Los Angeles, its buildings and traffic have all been taken from the west looking east. They all have the freeways in the foreground with their exciting lights and rush hour traffic. Great shots all. I have made them myself. I wanted something different. So I circled the city, night after night. I looked from the north and south and many angles in between. It was, however, this view from the east looking west that I liked best. Here you get a contrast between the working part of the city, it old warehouses, and the glamour of the steel skyscrapers. This image was created on a bridge over the Los Angeles River heading into East Los Angeles. This was the last night of shooting Los Angeles skyline from different locations. The next night, from the next bridge north, I was robbed of $10,000 worth of equipment and lost a tooth in the process. Los Angeles is the only city in the world where I have ever had a problem taking photographs. From Beijing to Singapore to Berlin it was all perfect. It was only in my home city that shooting became a life or death issue.
The photo is taken using a tripod with a 70 - 200 mm lens set at 200 mm. It was shoot at f 10 for 13 seconds at 100 ISO.
The image is available as a Limited Edition Print. For that or for any questions or comments you can contact me at brad@bradrickerby.com.
