To be honest, it was pouring outside, really coming down, when I made this picture. You can see the rain on the windows of the subway car. So I escaped indoors, into the relative dryness of the London Underground where I made this great commercial/stock image.

What in this image makes it good for commercial use? First, there is a large area at the bottom of the frame that can be used for text. That is really, really important. Advertisers want someplace to write about their message, so you have to leave them room somewhere.

Second, the vast majority of the people's faces are blurred. They could be anybody, you maybe or your next door neighbor. (As an aside, back when this image was created the rules for model releases where less strict and this image got away for a long time being sold as commercial stock without a model release. That, of course, would never happen today).

Third, it is a scene that most city dwellers and office workers can relate to. It can be placed in the business category and the business category sells best.

Finally, the blurs suggest action and direction and purpose. Those are there good concepts to have going for your image. Remember, stock photography revolves around the sales of concepts. The better your image illustrates a concept, the better it will sell.

I created a picture that has sold well commercially and I managed to stay dry while doing so. What more could I ask for from a day of shooting!
